Rossi Turner is here
We are glad to welcome Rossi Turner as our new Board President. Rossi has been involved with educating, coaching and artistically motivating youth for many years.
He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science from Tennessee State University, his Masters Degree in Health Education from Middle Tennessee State University and has two certifications
in civil and family mediation. He has taught from Vermont to Texas and places in between in
both in what he calls “jump start 12 and grade 13 and above.” As a professional dancer and
choreographer for stage and television he brings added value to our literacy program with what
he calls “Literally Dancing.” This is consistent with what he began as a student called
“Edutainment.” His Sankofa DanceTheater basically used dance and theater as a tool of
education. During his address at The University of Texas at Arlington Upward bound Program,
Rossi is quoted as saying this about the young “edutarians.”
“Divine youth means students whose actions reflect distinguishable conduct based upon high standards of discipline and motivation. It means those whose character in the hallways and classroom reflect a respect for others and a keen aspiration for academic achievement. It means those who will shed their
layers of adolescence and thereby prepare themselves intellectually and emotionally to become responsible freedom voices of tomorrow.”
Rossi has traveled to 46 countries around the world on 5 continents. He has taught for the
University of Ghana in Accra, the United States Embassy in Togo as well as teaching on board
the Mercy Ship while docked in Lome, Togo. Please welcome Rossi Turner to our board of
Directors.
